UAE defence technology company EDGE has announced the launch of its new space company, ‘FADA’, a name derived from the Arabic word for space.
FADA’s strategic approach revolves around establishing robust national and international collaborations, coupled with the essential Transfer of Technology (ToT) and Transfer of Knowledge (ToK) initiatives.
These efforts will not only facilitate the creation of a self-reliant sovereign space sector but also ensure that the UAE can effectively address both national and commercial space requirements.

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, aptly emphasised that FADA’s inception aligns with the UAE’s vision of leadership in space technologies.
“The initiative not only lays a foundation for an innovative ecosystem but also enables EDGE to expand its footprint in the global space industry. By investing in cutting-edge facilities for satellite system development, manufacturing, and testing, FADA will serve as a comprehensive solution provider for both local and international clients, demonstrating EDGE’s commitment to technological excellence.”
Moreover, Waleid Al Mesmari, President of Space & Cyber Technologies at EDGE, highlighted the importance of fostering a sustainable and skilled workforce within the UAE’s space sector.
The launch of FADA underscores EDGE’s dedication to pioneering advanced technologies and establishing collaborative partnerships. Additionally, it sets a new benchmark in the global space landscape, which is essential for the UAE’s aspirations in this rapidly evolving domain.
The announcement of FADA follows EDGE’s selection as the prime contractor for the ‘Sirb’ programme, a constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, marking an influential step for the UAE’s private space sector.
With the first satellite, Sirb-1, projected for launch by 2026, this programme promises to enhance the nation’s space capabilities while fostering collaboration among various industry players and startups.
