The projected collaboration between Abu Dhabi’s G42 and Vietnamese enterprises to establish a $2 billion hyperscale data centre in Ho Chi Minh City represents a significant development in Vietnam’s technological infrastructure.

As reported by state media on Thursday, this partnership, involving local entities such as FPT Corp., VinaCapital, and Viet Thai Group, underscores the growing importance of Vietnam as a regional business hub.

The envisioned data centre signifies a substantial foreign investment and a strategic move to bolster Vietnam’s digital capabilities. Hyperscale data centres are critical for supporting the increasing demands of cloud computing, data storage, and advanced digital services.

The initiative aligns with the Vietnamese government’s efforts to modernise its technological framework and attract foreign investment in high-growth sectors.

Currently, the project awaits the Prime Minister’s approval, as local authorities are seeking guidance on its implementation. While the specific timeline for the development remains undisclosed, the project’s scale and potential impact suggest that it will be a priority for both the involved companies and the Vietnamese government.

The successful realisation of this data centre would not only enhance Vietnam’s technological infrastructure but also stimulate economic growth and create new opportunities within the digital economy.
